My Creative Space

Swirling pretty blues around with the softest of brushes. Searching for gentle soothing tones which I hope will blend perfectly in the nursery of a wee babe whom I haven't yet met. I do so hope this picture will meet with the young sirs approval.

And just so you know, there isn't an invisible horse between his legs, *sheesh* Coach.

There's a ton of creativity over at Kirsty's, why don't you pop on over and take a peek.

My Creative Space

Well *phew*, I've just managed to squeeze this one in before the lovely Kirsty takes a breather and wraps up the My Creative Space meme for a Christmas break. It's a quick post today, really I just wanted to share the final version of Witchy, who is definitely my Witchy of choice, and as it so happens, was the piece selected by my friend to be shipped off to Melbourne.

Bye bye little Witchy and safe travels.

If you would like to catch the last of the creative offerings for 2009, head on over to Kootoyoo and enjoy.

My Creative Space

There have been all sorts of creative activities taking place around here this past week. We've decorated a Christmas tree. I baked a seriously delicious orange and hazelnut torta for The Coach's birthday. And as per the request from my friend, Witchy received a soft wash of watercolor.

Now I think it's been fairly well established that I am rather partial to a stroke or two of bright gouache colour, so I'm thinking that I just might have to play with a second copy of Witchy. A Witchy with oomph, I will keep you posted.

Thanks again to Kirsty for hosting another week of My Creative Space. Pop on over to Kootoyoo for plenty more creative spaces.

My Creative Space

This week I needed to get some fresh air and clear my head.

My creative space moved outdoors.
Where I sat and sketched some new ideas.
And lay on a blanket enjoying the morning sun.

And the view of the Botanical Gardens.

And when I came home, I gave Petal a wash of watercolour. I have kept the original black and white but The Coach printed me some copies on watercolour paper to play with, thank-you for the suggestion peeps.

For more creative words and pictures go and visit Kirsty, it's a regular party over at her place. Thanks Kirsty.

My Creative Space

Not many changes going on between my creative space from last week to this week. I'm back sketching away on my next project with my 'not always reliable but very still and professional model' up on my computer screen. If you are wondering (I find that most creative minds are also inquisitive minds) the sketch book on the right is covered in Ninja chicken prototypes. Bet that's got you curious now hasn't it ?

This is a very rough first sketch of the next young intrepid explorer.

And here is 'Boys Abroad' in all it's coloured glory. I love bright colours, particularly the deep red. Who wouldn't want a bright red pirate hat, arrrr me hearties.

Now run, don't walk, over to Kirstys for more wonderful creative offerings.

My Creative Space

Here we are, back at another Thursday (where are the weeks going ?) and playing along with Kirsty's 'Creative Space' meme. All the creative activity will be taking place in the kitchen today as a certain young fellow has a birthday coming up. Today is chocolate cake day, Saturday will be vanilla cake with strawberries and cream and this evening a red wine slow cooked brisket stew is on the menu. Mmm mmm.

But before I head into the kitchen, I did manage to finish off 'Boy and Dragonfly'. The green gouache left the house divided with The Coach voicing his preference for the more simplified coloured scheme, but I quite like the bolder version. So to each his own.

For more creative activity head on over to kootoyoo where you are sure to be dazzled by a terribly clever bunch of cookies.

Happy Friday and Stage Two

I'm joining Chantelle in wishing everyone a Happy Friday today. The above image is Petal and I as represented by our Friday morning beverages of choice, I bet you can't guess which beverage belongs to Petal.

I also managed to wrangle the camera back off The Coach and have included a couple snaps of stage two of The Current Project. Now we come to the make or break stage of thick opaque colours which can ruin all of my carefully applied lines. Ha, wish me luck with that one.

I hope you have a fabulous Friday.

My Creative Space

I was actually hoping to show you stage two of my latest little project, but a certain someone (who shall remain nameless) pilfered the camera this morning, so I have had to settle with some shots I took the other day. I mean, sheesh, does he (who shall remain nameless) not realise the importance of recording my creative space on a Thursday ? Rest assured that this error will not occur again. This time I have recovered my gouache set from the dusty depths of the shed. At this stage I have only done a wash of watercolour, so we'll just see how the gouache comes into things in the next few days. Hope that you're having a lovely, creative sort of day and thanks again to Kirsty for hosting this great meme.

My Creative Space

Look, it's Thursday and I have something to post about for my creative space, will wonders never cease ? I'm still re-discovering my water colours, trying a few different things, looking for new effects. I was aiming for a ripple effect this time...I think it worked...sort of. I then decided it would be fun to draw lots of small, thin, lines......um yeah, that was all fun until I started to go cross-eyed. The Coach seems to be rolling his eyes at me a lot lately but I don't mind, it's nice to be doing something again that gave me such pleasure when I was younger.

Thanks again to Kirsty for hosting My Creative Space which encourages me to take some time out and get creative.

Meh.

Yep, that's me at the moment all right, 'meh', lots and lots of 'meh'. I don't really know where it came from but I would be quite happy for it to shuffle off and bother someone else. When you have a large pile of 'meh' hanging over you, even if you have the best intentions in the world, everything that you do seems to go a little skew-if.

I had another idea for a watercolour and ink sketch, it seemed like a good idea in my head. I attempted some colour washes on Sunday and.....'meh', totally not what I was aiming for. Now I'm debating, do I try and redeem my first attempt or just toss it away, wait until the 'meh' has moved on, and try afresh ? Yes, tough decisions indeed, it's no wonder I'm having trouble falling asleep at night.

But it's not all bad when you get a dose of the 'mehs', finding my creative portal slightly blocked I have turned my attention elsewhere and have re-embraced home sessions of Pilates. I really enjoy Pilates, none of this sweating business. Calm, controlled movements which give you rock-hard (well, slightly less squishy) abs and a toned butt. Yes, that's the real carrot isn't it ? Who wouldn't want a toned, perky botbot that you could bounce a coin off ?

Petal has been joining me in my workouts (I use the term loosely) and I must admit that it's very hard to keep a straight face and concentrate on "working your inner core strength," when you have a four year old wanting to hold your hand and perform her stylised interpretation of the exercise. The Coach decided to take some photos of our efforts the other day, and Petal, ever the entertainer, is looking up with a huge grin on each shot whilst I grimace and try to hold a pose as all the muscles I'd forgotten I had begin to quiver and shake in protest.

Anyway, I'm sure that the 'mehs' will be on their merry way soon enough and in the meantime I will embrace my new daily mantra, "Abs of steel, abs of steel, abs of steel."

My Creative Space

Since I last posted about my creative space, I have learnt that Thursday is creative space day. I realise that today is not Thursday, it is Sunday, but what can I say, my creative juices flow more freely on the weekend.

Today was so superb on the weather front that I decided to move my easel out on to the deck, why wouldn't you ? The gentle breeze did attempt to wreak havoc on my watercolour but I persevered, and although I didn't really have an idea when I started, I thought it turned out quite cute albeit with a rather mismatched colour scheme.

The down side to rediscovering my passion for painting is that there is a small mountain forming on the floor next to my dining table. Paper, sketch pads, pencils, pens, my watercolour set.......it's threatening to take over I tell you. Hmmm, perhaps I'll put that on my agenda for Thursday.
