My Place and Yours : Bedside

It's time to play at Pip's place again, with a super theme picked by the adorable Ms Lexi : Bedside. Really, it's all about the AWA clock radio, the B110 model no less. It has an LED display, and a clock and AM/FM radio, isn't technology amazing.

The truth of the matter is that I have grown rather fond of my ugly old clock radio, I just haven't the heart to replace it with some new stylish model, and it's yet to let me down. I may be wrong, but I think this clock radio once sat on my mother's bedside table, I guess that would make it a family heirloom, how lucky are my kids I ask you ?

  1. I admire your clock. I really do. I have to use my mobile as my bedside clock/alarm. We don't have a bedside clock. It's a sad state of affairs. What about that pile of books? Started? Or are they like mine, a leaning tower of unread books... to make me feel the guilt. EEK!

  2. LOL! I love your attachment to your clock radio. It's actually quite cool looking. It definitely has that retroesque appeal. Definitely heirloom worthy!

  3. Ah yes eagle-eyed Lexi, the tower of literature. I got halfway through Watchmen (a cult classic, so 'they' say) before I needed a breather. I haven't started The Pure Land, yet. And I'm up to Chapter 17 of Pride and Prejudice, but the Jane Austen is a VERY big book with very SMALL print. It's a work in progress :)

  5. Oh yes! I use my mobile too but I have a similar fantastic clock radio I stole from my Dad! its sitting here next to me. I should go plug it in a start using it again - you've inspired me!

  7. I remember getting my first digital clock radio...listening to 3XY and hitting the snooze button like crazy every morning. Wonder what happened to it? I use my mobile too now but have a bad habit of leaving it under the pillow all day xo

  8. Oh total SNAP! My clock radio was a 'el cheapo (not that yours is) from Kmart or something and it only has the AM/FM thing and it is brilliant! Two Christmas' ago I bought the hubs a funky looking ipod conneted clock radio thingo and the bloddy thing had only one volume for the alarm ... LOUD! It gave us heart attacks. I also reckon red LED display is the way to go. Any other colour is too bright.

    Hmmm now who's the waffler?

  9. We have an old clock of that vintage but it has retired to the girl's room and they are not allowed to get out of bed until it says 7:00.

  11. You are too funny, I'm loving your clock radio and so lovely that it was your Mum's. We have a very old tv in our room but it still works so why replace, it doesn't matter that we can hardly see a picture because it is so small!(lol) One day!

  12. I love that clock. I do. I think LED is totes styley. I think your kids must be wetting their pants, knowing that that they get to fight over that when you pop off. I bet it's got DIODES in it. I don't know what they are, but electronics kits were all about diodes. That clock smacks of diodes. xx

  13. @ Mel : The more Wafflers the merrier I say.
@ Kate : Yes, I've tried that too, if the planets are aligned it works.
@ jaboopee : After 27 years I bet your clock is totally retro too.
@ Catherine : We had a postage stamp sized tv in the living room for years. It amused me to observe the confused expressions on our guests faces, it didn't bother us.
@ Pip : Oh you are a hoot. I bet there are diodes, multiple diodes mayhap, I will so investigate further. Myth Buster Waffler.

  15. I had a clock like that too, once upon a time, not sure what happened to it.
Shame really as I too use my mobile as an alarm (well before I had the baba) and it's just not the same and would invariably get lost in the covers.
I love that you have a Watchman book in a pile with Jane Eyre!!

  17. I like your clock. I don't have an alarm clock, just use my mobile, but I would really love one like yours, no frills does it's job, plays radio too, and knows it's purpose. THese days I think newer fancier things are more prone to breaking, because they get confused with what they are supposed to be they have so many special functions. Yours is a definite heirloom.

  19. As with others here, that clock reminds me of yesteryear, when the Civil War was raging and we rode in sulkies because we had to. Does it make that old-school alarm beeping sound that makes it sound like the fabric of hell itself has been torn asunder? You know the noise I mean.

Incidentally, I have always used mobile phone alarms to wake me up (prior to that, my ever reliable mother who could shout my name with all the angry enthusiasm of a disgruntled town crier). My current alarm tone is a novelty car horn that sounds like AROOOOOOGA.

Every time I wake up I do so with a fright, fearing that the clowns have, after all these years, come to get me.

    Love your work!

  20. Don't even go there! That IS a stylish way to wake up in the morning! Nothing more irritating than flashing lights and bells and whistles to wake you from a peaceful slumber!
