My Creative Space

It appears that I have hit a snag with a hag. Yes, I possess rather exceptional poetic wit also, but that's not what today is all about, is it ? I fear that I may have alluded to much creative greatness this week...something about 'many little ideas....busy, busy, busy,' or some such waffle.

Well I'm afraid that I have stumbled into a small creative void. I have attempted to start a new piece but I'm struggling, poor old Witchy, she's just not floating my boat.

There are aspects that I like, but more that I don't. The biggest problem is that she is for a very dear friend of mine, so I am determined to make this work. *Sigh*, I'm sure if I keep my cool that she will eventually start to fall into place. Deep breaths Waffles, deep breaths.

In the meantime, I thought I would share some bright and cheery kiddie pieces. Petal's brightly coloured butterfly which looks to me rather more like a hungry and unimpressed zombie.

Le Artiste's birthday masterpiece which features Petal...with fangs. Hmmm, it would seem that Halloween has indeed influenced our creativity with witches, zombie butterflies and fangs. Either that or I should book us all in for a happy family group therapy session. Excellent.

Oh, I also thought I would include a panel of 'The Petal' series, as there were a few requests last week. It's quite lovely to see the difference when they are all placed together.

You know the drill now, don't you ? Quick, over to Kirsty's you go, for many, many more snippets of creative cleverness and inspiration.

Good luck with the witch - I've no doubt she'll be wonderful.

  3. I think your witch looks amazing. But then my artistic ability is not even up to Petal's level, so....

  4. Are you kidding?! Your witch is just fabulous! Is it the way she's standing or that she's looking out to an unspecified point? I think if you re-did her in varying poses you might come back to her and see how good she really is! The Petal trio is just so sublime - totally loving it :) K

  5. Petal is gorgeous! My, my, your talent is like my phone bill. It keeps getting inexplicably bigger.

We used to call my stepmother the Wicked Witch of the West - notable because she lives with my father 1200km west of Brisbane and has a distinctly awful disposition.

And she had different coloured eyes, which made it a breeze to imagine she was capable of supernatural skullduggery.

    Which she is.

  9. I think your Petal panel looks amazing. I really love (and sort of envy ... is that wrong?!) your gorgeous drawing style.

I am still laughing at hitting a snag with a hag. Personally I think she looks wonderful ... but I hope you manage to hone your crone (tee hee).

  10. Oh that Petal trio is gorgeous. Maybe if you step away from the hag drawing you'll be able to see it again with fresh eyes. I think she looks great and that your friend will love her.

  11. Very cute petal trio- the witch is great too- I think all the above commentators are right- if you were here I would have invited you for a latte and a walk by the beach- after that you would have seen your work with fresh eyes!

  12. Aren't those creative voids the absolute pits? If you're asking, I'd say she looks GREAT but I know what I'm like in your shoes. I'd have to think she looked great before I could hear it from anyone else. Turn her upside down or step back five metres or put her away for a week!

  27. Sometimes you just need to step away from the canvas and take a break to gain a new perspective, I think witchy looks great but understand where you are coming from. Have you visited Heather Ross's blog, http://heatherross.squarespace.com/? She has just done a great post with sketches for the 'owl and the pussycat' and how it took her a while to get to the 'right' sketch.
Also Love the Petal series, despite being a bit of a black and white girl I think I love the most colourful most of all!
